If the usual methods don't solve the problem, it's okay to get creative and take the Rubik's cube apart...

Kind versucht, einen zerlegten Zauberwürfel zusammenzusetzen

On Monday, March 4, 2024, the time had come again: We were pleased to welcome 28 students from the Gymnasium bei St. Michael together with their math teacher, Simon Zell, to the award ceremony of “Math in Advent 2023.” This time, class 5d achieved the best school result in the competition. As a cooperation partner of the school, we had sponsored the school’s participation in the nationwide competition.

Since essendi it is mainly focused on cryptography and IT security, we wanted to give the children a small insight into these topics. We discussed how important encryption is for secure communication on the internet. Encryption and decryption exercises with the Caesar cipher showed that cryptography must constantly evolve. That’s why essendi it is already developing methods today to make it as difficult as possible for highly efficient quantum computers to crack encryption.

“I am impressed that a fifth-grade class prevailed against so many higher grades. In the world of IT security, mathematical talent is very important, but so is the ability to solve problems creatively. One should not be discouraged if something doesn’t work, but rather learn from it and try unusual approaches,” said our managing director, Sarah Zügel.

At the end, the class received a certificate. They will also celebrate their success with a trip to the experimenta in Heilbronn, where the students will produce their own gummy bears. We wish them lots of fun!
