Many companies are reintroducing mandatory in-office attendance, with the trend continuing to rise. Often, the model requires up to three days per week on site. In stark contrast, however, according to the Technical University of Darmstadt, 24 percent of employees consider it a reason for resignation if they are denied the possibility to work flexibly in terms of location and time (source: tagesschau.de).

At essendi it, we also ask our candidates about their motivation for a job change. In two out of three cases, they state that while they are satisfied with their current job, their employer is significantly increasing mandatory on-site attendance, and that is why they are seeking a change.

Of course, we have also examined this issue carefully and decided on the following policy: our employees may live anywhere in Germany and thus work from home. Good reasons: over the years, we have neither observed a decline in productivity nor do our colleagues feel isolated or disconnected from the company. We meet regularly in a digital context, across departments as well, exchange ideas, and share news and developments. The onboarding of new team members has also been digitally optimized. At regular intervals, we meet in person for pre-planned workshops—either in-house, at the client’s premises, or at events. This very mix is perceived by our colleagues as sustainably beneficial.

Our employees have developed a new sense of identity and live it out in their daily business. And very importantly: of course, we also continue to maintain modern office workspaces at all locations, for anyone who prefers to come into the office.
